Martine Velthuis

Martine Velthuis (*2000) started violin lessons at the age of 7. From September 2013, she was in the young talent class of the ArtEz conservatory in Zwolle. There she received violin lessons from Sylvia van der Grinten. In 2018, she started studying classical violin at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague where she has lessons from Ilona Sie Dhian Ho.

In 2015, Martine won first prize at the Prinses Christina Concours region east. She also won the audience award at that time. In 2018, she won second prize and audience award at the same competition in a different category. That same year, she won third prize at the Britten Competition.
Martine has performed as a soloist with Symfonia Jong Twente, Euregio Symphonieorchester, Arcata string ensemble and with the Britten Youth String Orchestra.

She has taken masterclasses with Alfred Brendel, Lisa Ferschtman, Sarah Kapustin, Judith Steenbrink, Maria Milstein, Hatto Beyerle, members of the Osiris Trio, members of Cuarteto Casals, Quirine Viersen and others.

Martine was concertmaster with Jeugdorkest Nederland (JON) from 2016 to 2018. In 2022, she was concertmaster with the National Youth Orchestra (NJO) during the winter project conducted by John Wilson. Most recently, Martine was concertmaster at the production “Operetta land.” This project was in collaboration with the National Opera. Last spring Martine played a project with the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester under the baton of Daniele Gatti. With this orchestra she has played in great halls in Europe such as the Musikverein Wien, Kulturpalast Dresden, Gewandhaus Leipzig and Teatro alla Scala Milan.

Martine is the violinist of the Brioso Trio, a piano trio who met while studying at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In addition to giving concerts, they also participated in competitions. In 2022, they were awarded third prize in the Gelre Chamber Music Competition. In March 2023, the trio gave their first concert tour, in Norway, with concerts in the Domkirke of Kristiansand, as well as other places. Last summer they won a third price in their first international chamber music competition at Virtuoso & Belcanto in Lucca (Italy).

This season Martine is taking part of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra academy.
