Iona Daniel

Iona Daniel is a writer for music theatre and radio. She studied dramatic writing (Writing for Performance) at Hogeschool voor de kunsten Utrecht. Her graduation work Nachtbloeiers was awarded the ITs Playwriting Award 2012.

Since then, she has written texts for music theatre, installations and performances for Oerol, de Toneelmakerij, Over het IJ Festival, among others, and has made radio plays for the VPRO and NTR. Several of her texts were published by Uitgeverij Theaterboek, De Nieuwe Toneelbibliotheek and Theatre & Film Books.

As a writer, she likes to work with different forms of text and is looking for new ways to tell stories in audio, image or on paper.

With Rineke Roosenboom, Iona forms a music theatre collective: iona&rineke. Fascinated by outsiders, iona&rineke make work on the edge of fiction and reality. Performances with text and music as a basis, in which they stand on the floor as writers themselves, in collaboration with a variety of musicians. Since 2016 they have been affiliated as a collective with music theatre group Orkater, where they made Rumspringa and Kill All Kids.
