Mark Schilders

Mark Schilders is a Rotterdam-based drummer, composer and multi-instrumentalist. Mark graduated cum laude from Codarts in 2011 and then continued his studies at the renowned New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music in New York. As a drummer he won the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours, the Dutch Jazz Competition and the Erasmus Jazz Prize. In 2014 he was elected New Maker by the Fonds Podiumkunsten. Since then he has been active as a composer, writing for The New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra, his own band Fabrik and currently for Conny Janssen Danst’s new show, ‘Kiem’, among others. With his recent project ‘Marcellis & Darieaux’, he brought electronics, the use of light and acoustic instruments closer together through an installation of synthesizers and light bulbs. As a drummer, he plays with the Maarten Hogenhuis Trio, Jeroen van Vliet, New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra and many others. He is also active as bassist/keyboardist/drummer of the Dutch electronica pop sensation Weval. Mark teaches at the Codarts conservatory in Rotterdam.
