Thomas Pol

Thomas Pol (1989) is a Dutch double bass player and composer born in Zwolle and living in Rotterdam since his conservatoire days.

He took his bachelor’s course at Codarts in Rotterdam, where he took lessons from Marius Beets and Stefan Lievestro. During these years he did an exchange to New Orleans (UNO) for a year, and was a finalist for the Erasmus Jazz Prize. After passing his bachelor’s degree in Rotterdam in 2011, he returned to New Orleans in 2013 to get his master’s degree. The award of Fulbright, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, Van den Ende foudation and UNO distinguished musical scholarship made this adventure possible.

During the period, he played a lot with Stanton Moore, Wess ‘Warmdaddy’ Anderson, Jamison Ross, Herlin Riley, Nicholas Payton and others. It was a great learning experience for him. He also recorded his debut album, ‘Thomas Pol in America’ was released in 2016. After passing his master’s in 2015, he returned to the Netherlands.

Back in the Netherlands, he was approached by Jazz International in 2017 to lead ‘The Pack Project’, an initiative created to support young up-and-coming musicians in their musical careers, providing them with a stage. In 2018 he started a classical master’s degree with KCO bassist Rob Dirksen in Tilburg.

Thomas plays with Benjamin Herman Trio, Pynarello, ALEXANDER, T.Pol 3, NAOS among others and is active in both the jazz and classical worlds.
