Tijmen Veelenturf

Tijmen Veelenturf (1990) started playing classical violin at the age of seven. At fourteen, he came into contact with Irish folk music and American bluegrass. At the conservatory in Rotterdam, he studied Argentine tango during his bachelor’s degree and a combination of both tango and classical music during his master’s degree.

Tijmen is active as a violinist in various country and pop bands, plays in classical ensembles, is a member of a tango quintet and also does studio work. As a violinist and banjoist he is part of Dusty Mixed Feelings, a musical performance initiated by the Stokerij Schiedam, and he is also part of the theatre tour “Stukjes”, with Corrie van Binsbergen and Fréderique Spigt, which will start in February 2020. Together with fellow Batavians Simone Bottasso and Romain Bly, he is the organiser of Music Through The Walls, a Rotterdam-based musicians’ collective that makes studio recordings with large groups of musicians at unorthodox locations (such as a family home).
