Developed over the course of 1 year, each piece is the result of a collaboration between Alistair and four composers: Aart Strootman, Molly Joyce, Morris Kliphuis and Qasim Naqvi. Each of the pieces was developed through a series of musical exchanges and draws on a diverse range of musical influences including modular synthesis, Japanese garage punk, and electronic dance music. The use of electronics to expand and augment the colour palette of the cello also serves as a focal point with several of the works exploring the tension between man and machine.
Alistair Sung is an Australian cellist who seeks to explore the shared ground between disparate worlds. He is cellist of s t a r g a z e and Cello Octet Amsterdam.
