Ħoss (noun: A sound; a noise) (verb: to sense; to feel)
After a 5-year hiatus, Ħoss Project is coming to Batavierhuis with a brand new lineup, for a warmup show ahead of some international concert dates. The band’s approach draws from the multi-layered meaning of the Maltese word ‘Ħoss’, which as a noun simply means ‘sound’, but as a verb also means to sense or feel something. Led by drummer and composer Pete Galea, the group will be playing an array of new compositions written by Galea throughout several years of living in London, Malta and Rotterdam. Some older compositions belonging to the previous London-based lineup will also be part of the programme.
Drawing from the improvisational nature of jazz music, Ħoss Project uses a more modern tonal palette as well as electronic sounds and textures to deliver a set of exciting high-energy improvisations and lush soundscapes.

Na een onderbreking van 5 jaar komt Ħoss Project met een gloednieuwe line-up naar het Batavierhuis voor een eerste optreden in aanloop naar een aantal internationale concertdata. Onder leiding van drummer en componist Pete Galea, speelt de groep een reeks nieuwe composities die Galea schreef gedurende de jaren dat hij in Londen, Malta en Rotterdam woonde. Enkele oudere composities van de vorige Londense groep zullen ook deel uitmaken van het programma. Voortbouwend op de improvisatorische aard van jazzmuziek, gebruikt Ħoss Project een moderner klankpalet en elektronische geluiden en texturen om een set enerverende improvisaties en weelderige soundscapes af te leveren. De aanpak van de band is gebaseerd op de gelaagde betekenis van het Maltese woord ‘Ħoss’, dat als zelfstandig naamwoord simpelweg ‘geluid’ betekent, maar als werkwoord ook ‘iets aanvoelen’ of ‘voelen’.
