Program Sounding Here 06/09/22:
Parallax with Amund J. Røe:
Since forming in 2008, this Norwegian trio has worked incessantly towards forging a sound and approach of their own. What started out as band for exploring free improvisation has turned in to an artistic hub that is constantly looking for new avenues, projects and collaborators to expand their musical and artistic palette. Parallax’ work mainly centers around the intersection of acoustic contemporary music and improvisational music, but they also draw on influences from, and work within, various folk traditions as well as electronic music. Sonic exploration is at the core of Parallax’ music – always looking for new approaches and techniques to inspire and develop new musical possibilities.
Torstein Lavik Larsen – trumpet, percussion
Are Lothe Kolbeinsen – guitars and preparations
Ulrik Ibsen Thorsrud – drums and percussion
Amund J. Røe – composition
Rootless
Last April flamenco dancer Claudia Karapanou and vocalist **Ishtar Bakhtali ** performed a first version of their performance ‘Rootless’ at Batavierhuis. During this uprooted journey we investigate and experiment where different traditions meet and where roots expand. What happens to our roots when we take off for a journey to explore life? Do our roots stay buried and left behind or do we carry them with us all along the way? Do we lose our basis of stability or do we actually expand our roots while constantly moving? In ‘Rootless’ Claudia and Ishtar enter a dialogue through movement with influences from flamenco and sounds with elements from Indian classical music.
Ishtar Bakhtali – vocals
Claudia Karapanou – flamenco dance
