Bas Duister

Trompettist, maar eigenlijk muzikale spons, oprichter van koperkwintet Pelgrim Brass en sinds 2019 Adams artiest

Bas Duister

Since Bas Duister (1987) began studying at Codarts Rotterdam, his career as a trumpet player has made great leaps. At the age of 17, Bas was listening to the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra when his telephone rang during the interval. “Did you bring your trumpet?”, his teacher André Heuvelman asked. After that, Duister stood on the balcony playing a stage part of Pini di Roma by Respighi, and for the rest of the week he was a substitute. This did not go unnoticed by other orchestras and ensembles, and the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble has been the proud owner of this trumpet player since 2008.

Bas founded brass quintet Pelgrim Brass in 2013 with colleagues at Stadsbrouwerij de Pelgrim in Rotterdam. They are two CDs further, there is a real solo piece written for orchestra and quintet, and their own beer runs through the pipes of Stadsbrouwerij de Pelgrim. Furthermore, the men have conquered many classical music festivals with their own arrangements and original programmes.

Duister is actually a ‘sponge’; he prefers to suck up all useful information. “Not only from trumpeters. Also from dancers, choreographers, singers and other instrumentalists.” This rich palette of experiences makes Bas unique as a much sought-after musician, and since 2019 he has also been an Adams artist.
